Terri Schiavo

I can't tell you how sad and disgusted this case is making me. What is the harm in giving her a reprieve until the questions regarding her condition are definitively determined?

What is the harm?

What is the harm in ordering an MRI or a PET scan?

What is the harm in, as President Bush and Governor Bush have said, erring on the side of life?

Governor Bush, as the chief executive of the state of Florida has an obligation, supported by the new evidence of a misdiagnosis sworn in an affidavit by the Mayo Clinic(!) doctor, to order the state police to sieze Terri Schiavo and take measures to preserve her life until it can be determined whether she is in fact in a persistent vegetative state as decreed by Judge Greer.

Failing to take such action, in my shoot first and apologize later view, is a gross violation of the Governor's duty under the Florida Constitution to protect Terri Schiavi from having her right to life, as guaranteed by that Constitution, violated.

The Governor should immediately take custody of Terri Schiavo and ask questions later. If Judge Greer holds the Governor in contempt, who will enforce that order -- certainly not the executive branch?

This case is historic and demands that historic measures be taken until we can rule out the validity of the new evidence.

The harm in not taking historic measures is first that Terri Schiavo's right to life might have been violated and second that she will be dead.
